Dorothea Lorraine Hendricks, 89, of Boone, and a resident of Courtyard Terrace at the Eastern Star Masonic Home, Boone, since 2006, died Friday, Oct. 22, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 712 12th St., Boone.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at the Walter-Schroeder Funeral Home, Fifth and Story streets, Boone.

Burial will be at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Boxholm.

Dorothea Lorraine Hendricks, 89, of Boone, passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at Walter-Schroeder Funeral Home, Fifth and Story streets in Boone. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 712 12th St., in Boone. The Rev. Lindsay Watkins will officiate. Burial will be in the Prairie Lawn Cemetery near Boxholm.

Dorothea was born Sept. 12, 1921, in Boone, to Walter Otto Paul and Myrtle Elizabeth (Finestead) Jipp. She graduated in 1938 from Boone High School. She attended Boone Junior College and completed two years of nursing school at Lutheran Hospital in Sioux City.

She married Charles Lowell Hendricks on Nov. 27, 1941, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone. The couple lived in Boone many years until they moved to “the Cabin” near Fraser. They resided there for more than 12 years before they moved to Dayton. She returned to Boone where she had lived for the past seven years.

Her favorite things in life were her children and grandchildren. She loved to cook, bake and read. She was a tireless volunteer in her community. She worked as a clerk at Riekenberg Clothing and Herrald Drug in Boone for many years. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone.

She is survived by her five children, Judirae Obrecht and husband, James, of Ames, John Charles Hendricks, of Temple, Texas, Marilou Cheple and husband, Mark, of St. Paul, Minn., Jo Ann Hendricks, of St. Paul, Minn., and Julie Kay (Jinx) Hill and husband, Michael, of Marshalltown. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and her aunt, Jesimarie Mathers, of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Vera Jipp; and her husband, Chuck.

Memorials may be given to Boone Area Humane Society or Israel Family Hospice House.
