Sheryl Ann Niemand, 70 of Mesa, AZ, formerly of Colo and Nevada, died Tuesday, October 5, 2010 in Scottsdale, AZ after a 7-month bout with cancer. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 14, with the family present from Noon-1:30 pm at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth Street in Nevada. A committal service will be held immediately following the visitation at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery with Pastor Scott Jones officiating.

Sheryl was born on August 20, 1940 in Colo to Lester V. and Bonnie N. (Tripp) Smith. She graduated from Colo High School in 1958 and received her Bachelor’s Degree at the age of 67. On November 2, 1958, Sheryl married Jackie Niemand in Colo. She was employed at Reuben H. Donnelley while in Nevada. Sheryl graduated from Culinary Arts College in St. Cloud MN and was a chef at restaurants in Minnesota, Wyoming, and Arizona. She was employed as a medical coder at Scottsdale Memorial Shea Hospital at the time of her death. She was an avid reader, loved talking to her friends and family, and crocheting.

Sheryl is survived by 2 sons, Kevin (Sheila) of Springfield, MO and Karl of Mesa, AZ; a daughter, Teresa also of Mesa; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; her mother, Bonnie Smith; a sister, Sandra Garner, both of Mesa; a brother, James (Diane) Smith of Ames; many nieces and nephews.

Sheryl was preceded in death by her father Lester on May 29, 2004, a son Keith on December 10, 2005, a sister, Leslie A. Wilkening on September 29, 1999, an infant sister Susanne on June 9, 1943, her grandparents Harry and Mable Tripp and Orrin and Sarah Smith.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Sheryl and her family.
