THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, October 8, 2010.

Audrey Maxine (Bennett) Craven, 88, of Nevada, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, at Story County Medical Center in Nevada. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at First United Methodist Church, 1036 Seventh St., in Nevada. Burial will be at 1 p.m. at Lawn Hills Cemetery in Stanhope.

Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 10, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m., at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth St., in Nevada.

Audrey was born May 10, 1922, in Colome, S.D., to George Caswell and Clara Belle (Moffitt) Bennett Sr. She was a 1941 graduate of Gregory High School in Gregory, S.D. On Dec. 19, 1942, she married Charles Edwin Craven in Boone. They were owners of Stockyards Restaurant in Webster City. Audrey was a member of First United Methodist Church in Nevada and the Mary Circle. She enjoyed attending auctions, camping, being with family — especially grandchildren, and was the best pie maker.

She is survived by three sons, Melvin (Judy) Craven, of Nevada, Robert (Mary) Craven, of Badger, and Dennis (Bobbi) Craven, of Iowa City; one daughter, Janice Monson, of Nevada; daughter-in-law, Colleen Craven, of Webster City; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Bennett, of Boone.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles on Nov. 20, 2001; son, DeWayne Craven in 2005; two great-grandchildren, Bennett Green in 1998, and Sydney Craven in 2002; a brother, George Bennett in 1989; five sisters, Beulah Schrader in 1985, Pearl Sorber in 2001, Dorothy Vaughn in 2008, Lila Sorber in 1996, and Bonnie Fairchild in 1991; and a son-in-law, Dean Monson in 2009.

A memorial fund has been established in Audrey’s name.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Audrey and her family.
