GEORGE LASH

George Lash, a pioneer of Iowa and of Story County died at his home in the west part of town, Monday, March 9th at 4:00 am. He had suffered from paralysis, the third attack coming upon him the tenth of last June and leaving him entirely helpless from that time till the end.

He was born July 10th, 1830 in Wayne County, Ohio, one of a family of sixteen children. When six years of age he moved with his parents to Indiana and was married in Kosciusko county, Ind. Sept. 23rd, 1852 to Margaret Wolfskill. Two children were born to them, Orrin, who died several years ago and Mrs. O.F. Chaffin who had been with him since he was stricken last June.

It was in 1854 that Mr. Lash first came to Iowa. He settled in Butler county where he was a United States mail carrier till after the war when he moved to Story county upon the farm three and a half miles southeast of Maxwell, where he lived for over thirty years, coming to Nevada eighteen years ago this month. He leaves beside his daughter Mrs. Chaffin, six grand children and seventeen great grand children. On the death of his wife his son Orin with his wife and daughter came to share his home and brighten his remaining years; and since the death of his son the devotion of Mrs. Lash has done all that was possible to fill the place of both. As said, since the last attack in June, she has been assisted by his daughter Mrs. Chaffin.

The funeral will take place Wednesday at ten o'clock at the Methodist church and is in charge of the pastor Rev. Hardaway. The interment will be in the Iowa Center cemetery.

Submitter's note: Mrs. Chaffin was Olive Sylvina Lash who married Joseph Edward Chaffin. The reference to Mrs. O.F. Chaffin is inaccurate.
