THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, September 14, 2010.

Christine Donelson, 97, of Ames passed away Sunday, Sept.12, 2010, at Israel Family Hospice House. Memorial Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at Adams Funeral Home. Burial will be the Glenwood Cemetery, Ogden.

Christine was born April 21, 1913, in Corydon, to Blanche (Trinkaus) and John James. She graduated from Simpson College and taught kindergarten in Corydon until marrying Mervin E. Donelson on June 4, 1938, in her parent’s home. They moved to the Donelson family farm south, of Ogden. Mervin and Christine were married 64 years.

She returned to college and graduated from Drake University. She returned to teaching kindergarten and first grade in Ogden Community Schools from 1955 until 1976 when she retired. The Donelsons moved from the farm to Ames in 1984 and moved to Green Hills retirement community in Ames in 1997.

Christine was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed traveling, reading, golf, knitting/crocheting, crosswords, scrapbooking and visiting children and grandchildren.

She is survived by two children, John Donelson and wife, Linda, of Iowa City, and Barbara Goings and husband, Richard, of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Chris Donelson, of Iowa City, Loren Donelson, of San Diego, Lyn Donelson, of Paris, France, and Emory Donelson, of Santa Monica, Calif., Julie Goings-Perrot, of Newburgh, N.Y., and John Goings, of O’Fallon, Mo.; Eight great-grandchildren L’Engle and Lucy Charis-Carlson, of Iowa City, Miles Donelson, of San Diego, Laura and Will Goings, of O’Fallon, Mo., and Elise, Isabelle and Henry Goings-Perrot, of Newburgh, N.Y.

She was preceded in death by her husband Mervin in 2002.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service assisted the family with arrangements.
