Mary Ann Wilson, 91, of Nevada, passed away Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada. A private memorial service is planned.

Mary Ann Wilson was born Jan. 30, 1919, at Slovac, near Stuggart, Ark., to John and Annie Sandor. She went to the Catholic Church school there through elementary and “boarded” out and lived with the Methodist minister’s family at Hazen, Ark., through her high school days.

She met Leon Wilson in Stuggart, Ark., while working at the Sterling department store and he was stationed there working with the Corps of Engineers, building the Stuggart Army Airfield. After a six-month engagement, they were married on July 8, 1943, in Stuggart, Ark. They lived in Stuggart; Little Rock, Ark.; San Diego; and Fredonia, Kan., before starting up farming in 1948 near Milford school in rural Nevada.

After Leon became postmaster of Nevada in 1963, the two moved their family into town where Mary Ann worked at Donnelly’s Marketing for 17 years. During their retirement, Leon and Mary Ann enjoyed traveling, attending any and all Iowa State athletic events, and caring for their six young grandchildren.

She is survived by her three children, Mark (Diane) Wilson, Diane (Mike) Dawson, and Steve (Rosemary) Wilson, all of Nevada; her six grandchildren, Erin and Nicole Wilson, William (Erica) Dawson, Ben (Molly) Long, of Des Moines, and Tom and Kathryn Wilson; four great-grandchildren, Nick, Maria and Anna Long and Edith Dawson; her youngest brother, Jim (Helen) Sandor, of Lodi, Calif.; and many nephews and nieces, Marilyn Wilson, of Kelley, Wayne (Jan) Wilson, of Ames, Ralph (Ardie) Wilson, of Minneapolis, Ruth (Wes) Schonhorst, of Slater, Vera Shriener, of Council Bluffs, Carol (Robert) Alleman, of Ankeny, and Jim (Betsy) Wilson, of Pasadena, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Leon Wilson; three sisters and one brother, Maggie, Theresa, Teenie and Jay Sandor, of Stuggart, Ark.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Mary Ann.

Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
