Darlene Stevens, 91, formerly of Collins, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at Israel Family Hospice House, in Ames. Funeral services are pending with Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.

Darlene (Dodd) Stevens, 91, of Collins, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at United Methodist Church, 225 Third Ave., in Collins, with Pastor Lewis S. Flanigan officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Collins.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Aug. 24, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m., at United Methodist Church in Collins.

Darlene was born Feb. 11, 1919, in Collins, to Henry and Veda (Thompson) Dodd. She was an only child and lived in Collins her entire life. She was a 1936 graduate of Collins High School and in 1937 graduated from Thompson Beauty School. She operated a shop in Collins. On July 23, 1940, she married Marvin Stevens at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She was a member of United Methodist Church in Collins and a 50-year member of the Isabelle Chapter of Eastern Star No. 271. In earlier years, she enjoyed being a member of the Bid or Bye Bridge Club.

She is survived by one son, Rod (Becky) Stevens, of Urbandale; two daughters, Judy (Bruce) Sesker, of Maxwell, and Darla (Mark) Carver, of Collins; seven grandchildren, Jeff (Susan) Sesker, Laurie (Martin) Coughenour, Eric Stevens, Sarah (Bryan) Korth, Alison Stevens, Tara (Eric) Crain and Jennifer (Tom) Cannon; eight great-grandchildren, Michael, Patrick and Elizabeth Sesker, Kelsie, Megan and Emily Coughenour, and Wyatt and Isabella Crain.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Veda Dodd, and her husband, Marvin on Sept. 7, 1998.

A memorial fund has been established in Darlene’s name for United Methodist Church of Collins.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Darlene and her family.
