MRS. CARRIE FAIR PASSED AWAY IN CALIFORNIA
(From 1954 unidentified newspaper)Mrs. Carrie Fair, former Maxwell resident, died at her home in Los Angeles, California, Thursday, March 5, 1954. Final rites were held Tuesday, March 9, at 2:00 p.m. from the Cooper Funeral Home at Maxwell (1). Officiating minister was Rev. Robert Robinson. Mrs. Jean Mohler sang "The Lord’s Prayer" and "Nearer My God to Thee" accompanied by Mrs. Madeline Summitt.
Casket bearers were Emmett Schtt, Chas. French, Milton Mohr, Willis Evans, martin Troup, and Harold Whitaker. Interment was in Iowa Center Cemetery.
Carrie Whitaker, daughter of Samuel and Laura(2) Whitaker, was born April 13, 1877 in Story County, and entered into rest at her home in Los Angeles, California on March 4, 1954 at the age of 76 years, ten months, and twenty-one days. As a young girl in the Iowa Center community she professed her faith in God and then later in her life she became a member of the Maxwell Methodist Church, of which she was still a member at the time of her passing. She had been a resident of the Maxwell community until 1947, when she moved to California. In 1902 she was united in marriage to I.D. Fair (3) and to this union were born three children, Veta Lou, Ross L., and Don J. She was a kind and loving mother and had devoted her life to the rearing of her children, and to the church. She is survived by her three children, Veta Lou Hundley(4) of Long Beach, California; Ross L. Fair of Torrence, California, and Don J. Fair of Los Angeles; one brother, Grant Whitaker of Nevada, Iowa, five grandchildren: Wendell Fair, Irvin Fair, Carolyn Fair, John Fair, Darrell Couglin and one great grand-daughter Christine Couglin. She was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters, Emma Prime (5), Liza Jones (6), Mattie Robison (7), and Ida Belcher (8). Funeral services were held in Los Angeles on Saturday and were attended by a large number of relatives and friends.

5. Emma Miller Wood Whitaker Smith Moffett Prime was a step-sister of Carrie (Whitaker) Fair. Emma was born to Harriet (Miller) Whitaker before Harriet married Samuel Whitaker. Carrie (Whitaker) fair was born to Laura (Densmore) Whitaker, who was Sam Whitaker’s second wife.
6. Half-sister Liza Jones was Mary Elizabeth (Whitaker) Jones who was married to Al Jones.
7. Half-sister Mattie (Whitaker) Robison was married to E.R. "Buz" Robison.
8. Half-sister Ida May (Whitaker) Belcher was married to S.A. "Al" Belcher.
