Sister of Ames Woman Killed at Rail Crossing

Miss Gladys Davis, 22, of Boone, sister of Mrs. Vernon Bowman, 831 Wilson avenue, Ames, was killed instantly in a train-automobile crash Sunday evening near East Clinton, Ill.

Miss Davis was riding in the car driven by Lynn Stevenson, 22, of Rockford, Ill., who was killed also.

The accident occurred during a sleet storm at a grade crossing on route 80 in East Clinton, Ill., when the car in which the couple was riding was struck by the streamline train "City of Denver."

Miss Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Davis of Boone, had made her home in Rockford, where she was employed in a furniture store, with her brother. She had spent the weekend in Boone with relatives and was returning to Rockford when the accident occured. Miss Davis and Mr. Stevenson had stopped in Ames at the Bowman home Sunday evening, leaving there about 5 p. m.

Mr. Davis and Mr. Bowman left Monday to bring the body to Boone.

Mr. Stevenson was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Stevenson of Lohrville.
