Marjorie "Jean" Evans, 81, of Boone, died of cancer Saturday at the Panora Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Panora. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames with the Rev. Lenwood Monte officiating. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Marjorie "Jean" Evans was born on Jan. 25, 1919, in Guthrie Center, the daughter of Orris and Elsie Secoy. She graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1935 and taught in Guthrie Center and Ames for six years. She worked for the Highway commission for 26 years before retiring in 1984. She married Lester Hagen in 1946. He died in 1957. She married Dwight (Doc) Max Evans in 1962. She was a member of the American Legion Auxilary Post No. 37 in Ames.

She is survived by one brother, Hugh Secoy of Guthrie Center; three step-children, JoLene Wilhelm of Ankeny, Marla Lee Lucas of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Phillip G. Evans of Ames; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by both husbands and one brother.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association and the American Cancern Society.

Stevens Memorial Chapel is handling the arrangements.
