EUGENE M'FARLAND DIES IN KENTUCKY

Appendicitis Operation is Fatal

Eugene L. McFarland, 29, son of Dr. and Mrs. G. E. McFarland, 1205 Ridgewood avenue, died at his home in Murray, Ky., Friday at 4 p. m. Death followed an operation for appendicitis.

The funeral services and burial will be held Sunday afternoon in Jasper, Ala., his wife's former home.

Mr. McFarland was born in Battle Creek, Mich., in 1907. He was graduated from Ames High school in 1924, and attended Iowa State college for two years. He went to the University of Missouri to complete his college work, and was graduated from the school of journalism there in 1928.

During the summer of 1927 he was employed at the Ames Daily Tribune as city editor. After his graduation from the University of Missouri he went to Osceola and worked on the newspaper there for a few years. In 1932 he went to Jaspar, Ala., as managing editor of the paper there, and in 1934 he became managing editor of a paper in Stuthers, Ohio. He stayed there until this spring when he bought the paper in Murray, Ky., where he was at the time of his death.

Mr. McFarland is survived by his parents, his wife, Elizabeth Cranford McFarland, two children Martha Bess, 4, and Eugene Cranford, 1, two brothers, Dr. Julian McFarland of Leon, and Dr. G. E. McFarland, jr., of Ames.
