Phyllis Hartman Long, 80, of Ames, formerly of Sac City, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at the United Methodist Church in Sac City, with burial at Cory Grove Cemetery under the direction of the Farber and Otteman Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at noon, prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
Phyllis Jean Griffith was born April 17, 1930, at Cushing, the daughter of William O. and Dorothy A. (Cobb) Griffith. She graduated from Pierson High School in 1948.
On April 4, 1952, Phyllis married Donald D. Hartman. Three daughters were born to this union, Holly (Rick) Sharpe, of Ames, Anne (Mike) Nerison, of Algona, and Hanie (Scott Jensen) Hartman, of Minneapolis.
They raised their daughters on the family farm west of Sac City, enjoying their life with family, friends and community activities. Don passed away on May 6, 1985.
Phyllis was both a jeweler and licensed hearing aid dealer. She owned her own business called Crown Jewelry and Hearing Aids while she lived in Sac City. She was active in the community as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Secretary of the Sac County Fair Board, and member of the United Methodist Church, UMW and circle. Phyllis was deeply involved with Kiwanis.
She was the first woman member of the Sac City Kiwanis, where she served as President, and was district lieutenant governor of Kiwanis International.

She was an enthusiastic member of the Red Hats in Arizona.Survivors include her three daughters; stepchildren, Jolene (Jerry) Hagstrom, Rick (Annie) Long, and Gail (Dan) Green; six grandchildren, Leisa Sharpe, Elizabeth (Michael) Davis, and Jordan Sharpe, Ted and Margaret Nerison, and Aaron Jensen; five step-grandchildren, Heather Hagstrom, Sarah and Adam Long, and Andy and Derek Green; great-grandchildren, Bellarose Davis, and Parker and Kale Sharpe; brothers, Donald Griffith, of Newman, Ga., Jack Griffith, of Ione, Calif., Bill Griffith, of Hernando Beach, Fla., and Paul Griffith, of Penrose, Colo.; her sister, Mary Gray, of Dallas; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and extended family members.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, William and Dorothy Griffith; and husbands, Donald Hartman and R. Dale Long.
The family requests memorials be made to the United Methodist Church in Sac City.
