Mary Agnes Stein, 90, of San Diego, Calif., formerly of Ames, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010, following surgery. Mass of Christian burial was July 8, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Milford. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Pomeroy.
Mary Agnes was born Dec. 24, 1919, in Fort Dodge, to John and Elizabeth (Carroll) Clancy. She grew up in Pomeroy, where she received her early education and then furthered her education at Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids. On June 3, 1940, she married Garwin Stein in Fort Dodge. They lived in Pomeroy, Ames and California. She was a school teacher and homemaker.
She was a member of the Catholic faith. She was active in Catholic Daughters and Ames Woman’s Club. She loved to read, music, all things Irish and spending time with family.
She is survived by four children, David J. (Connie) Stein Sr., Betty (Anthony) Bulich, Jean Clancy (Harry Maixner) and Peg (Bill) Helms; grandchildren, David John (Ann) Stein Jr., Christopher (Leah) Stein, Aimee (Jeff) Dietzenbach, Todd (Kristen) Bulich, Justin (Laurie) Frizzell and Tami (Adam) Moen; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garwin Stein; and one grandson, Julian Clancy Frazier.
Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford was in charge of arrangements.
