THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, July 3, 2010.
Stephen Eugene Maloy, 74, of Ames, died of cancer on July 1, 2010, at his home, surrounded by loved ones. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 6, at the Collegiate United Methodist Church, 2622 Lincoln Way, Ames. The Rev. Scott Grotewold will officiate and interment will be at the Ames Municipal Cemetery following the service.
Steve was born July 13, 1935, in Angola, Ind. to Eugene and Louise Elizabeth (Snobarger) Maloy. He attended Purdue University; Michigan State University, where he earned a doctor of veterinary medicine degree; and Iowa State University. He served in the U.S. Army in San Antonio, Texas, where on Sept. 12, 1959, he married Loretta Jane Knapp.
From 1962 to 1992 (when he retired), he worked for the National Veterinary Service Laboratories where he was head of anaerobic bacteriology. He was a member of Collegiate United Methodist Church, American Veterinary Medical Association, National Association of Federal Veterinarians, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and AARP. Steve enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, photography, bird watching and enjoying nature. He had a great sense of humor and always kept his granddaughters giggling whenever there was a family gathering. He was an amazing man who will be greatly missed by his family.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta; son, Brian (Maureen); granddaughter, Alliene, all of Ames; granddaughter, Mallory Allen (Eric), of Ankeny; and brother, John (Julie) Maloy, of Fremont, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Louise Maloy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Collegiate United Methodist Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
