Ralph C. Hitchings, 105 years, of 211 North Ash in Zearing, died Friday, June 11, at Story County Medical Center in Nevada.

He was born January 20, 1905, in Fernald to William Bert and Louisa (Edler) Hitchings. He graduated from Fernald High School in 1925, and moved to Zearing in 1990. He married Elizabeth Jane (Proctor) Hitchings on Oct. 14, 1928, in Marshalltown. She preceded him in death on Friday, April 3, 1992. He had farmed in the local area for over 50 years.

Survivors include one daughter, Donna Sowers of Zearing; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Ralph requested to have a traditional funeral service with his family. The service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Zearing First Responders.

Fredregill Funeral Home, Zearing, is handling arrangements.
