THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, June 19, 2010.

Vera Mae Woodard, 102, of Nevada, passed away Friday, June 18, 2010, at the Rolling Green Village in Nevada.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 23, at the Maxwell United Methodist Church in Maxwell, with burial following in the Maxwell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell.

Vera was born May 3, 1908, in Maxwell to Walter and Pearl (Hollenbeck) Troup. She graduated from Maxwell High School in 1926. She married Walter G. Woodard on April 28, 1928, in Knoxville. Vera worked 23 years for the R.H. Donneley Corporation before her retirement in 1970. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening and making bread wrapper rugs. Vera played the piano many years for the Maxwell United Methodist Church and until her death was the oldest living church member.

Vera is survived by her children, Ellen Kueker, of Norwalk, Elizebeth (Wilbur) Gamble, of West Des Moines, and Pearle Elder, of Maxwell; her sister, Ruth Meyer, of Marshalltown; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter G. Woodard in 1977; her son, Bill Woodard in 2008; her brother, Howard; her son, Howard Woodard in infancy; three great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, all in infancy.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rolling Green Village in loving memory of Vera.

The Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell is handling arrangements.
