THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, June 3, 2010.

Marilyn Joyce Stoops passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Boone County Hospital. Memorial services will be at noon Saturday, June 5, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Marilyn was born Dec. 9, 1926, to George and Catherine Minson. She grew up in Boone and graduated from Boone High School in 1945. She married Lyle Edward Stoops in 1946. She worked as a ticket clerk for the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad, as a secretary for Thorpe Finance Company, a sale clerk for JC Penney, and then spent the majority of her years as the comptroller for Mutual Benefit and Life Company, a job which she loved. She retired in 1988.

Throughout her married years and after retirement, she enjoyed camping with her family and wintering in Texas with her husband. As her grandchildren grew up, she became an avid fan and cheerleader for all of their sports and activities.

She is survived by her husband, Lyle Stoops; one daughter, Mary Enslow; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kathi Stoops; her grandchildren, Allison (David) Wise, Danielle (Brad) Burnett, Timothy Stoops and Eric Enslow; and her great-grandson, Henry Wise. She is also survived by three sisters, Maurine Morris, Martha (Brad) Carswell and Marjorie (Ronald) McNeal and their families.
