THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, May 28, 2010.

Pauline James, 95, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010. A home going celebration will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 29, at Friendship Baptist Church, 2400 Mortensen Road in Ames.

Pauline was born Oct. 13, 1914 in Clarksville, Tenn., the daughter of Ben and Lula (Hunter) Smith. She graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis, Ind., in the 1930s. She married David James in Farrell, Pa., where she was a retired licensed practical nurse and former co-owner of David James Hotel in Farrell, Pa.

She was a church mother of Friendship Baptist Church in Ames, member of AARP and former daughter ruler of Twin City Elks in Farrell, Pa. She was a retired ordained minister before coming to Iowa. Pauline was always active throughout her life in civil rights and community betterment, and she enjoyed participating in the Iowa caucuses.

She is survived by daughter, Dava Paulette James, of Nevada; son, Louis and Lori James, of Chicago; and grandchildren, Imani and Amir.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the David and Pauline James Scholarship Fund, Marshalltown Community College Foundation, 3700 S. Center St., Marshalltown, IA 50158.
