THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, May 21, 2010.
Terry M. Blackburn, of Slater, died Thursday, May 6, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, of a heart attack. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, at Trinity Christian Reformed Church, 3626 Ontario St., in Ames.
Terry was born July 16, 1946, in Ames, to Leila and Dave Blackburn. He grew up in Ames and was a resident of the Ames area for most of his life, except for an approximately 20-year sojourn in Las Vegas and other diverse locations.
Terry was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy following service upon an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific during the Vietnam War.
Throughout his life, Terry was an entrepreneur and involved in a wide-ranging number of jobs and occupations. He had returned to Iowa in August 2009 to be closer to his daughters and grandchildren.
Terry was an active and involved friend of Bill W. for the last 21 years of his life.
He is survived by his daughters, Sherry Hiatt, of Slater, and Madyson Blackburn, of the Ottumwa area; three grandchildren, Shealyn Hiatt, of Slater, and T.J. and Tanner Hiatt, of Kelley; stepbrother, John Whattoff; nephew, Kevin Whattoff; uncle, Valgene Blackburn; and cousin, David Blackburn.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents and an infant child.
Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service assisted the family with arrangements.
