THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, May 13, 2010.

Dale William Hall, 84, of Bethany Manor in Story City and formerly of Boone, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 14, at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets in Boone, with the Rev. Dan Solomon officiating. Following the service, his body will be cremated. Burial of his cremains will be at a later date in Mackey Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, May 13, at Schroeder Memorial Chapel. Visitation will continue from 8 a.m. to service time Friday at the funeral chapel.

Dale was born May 11, 1926, in Morrison, Ill., the son of Russell and Elanor Grace (Greene) Hall. He attended school in Illinois. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Joan Marie Smith on June 27, 1970, in Omaha, Neb. He was a conductor for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad, beginning in 1968, and then was a clerk for the railroad from 1977 until he retired in 1996. He was a member of the VFW No. 817. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and having morning coffee with the guys at the Boone Airport. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren.

He is survived by five sons, Mike Hall and wife, Jeanette, of Erie, Ill., Brent Cattanach and wife, Jennifer, of Greenville, Wis., Bobby Cattanach and wife, Julie, of Ames, Roger Peterson and wife, Sherry, of Norfolk, Neb., and Kevin Peterson, of Thornton, Colo.; daughter, Linda Erickson and husband, Roger, of Boone; 19 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan; one son, Kent Cattanach; one daughter, Gail; and one brother, Bob.

Memorials may be given to the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
