Larry Duane Bratton was born Sept. 19, 1930, in Douglas County, Minn., the son of Leonard E. and Pearl (Johnson) Bratton. He was raised in the country near Holmes City, Minn., and worked hard beside his dad on the family farm throughout his teenage years until 1947 when he was stricken with polio. After a lengthy illness and rehabilitation by his mother, father and siblings, he went on to lead a productive life and was always a hard worker. He owned and operated a lawn care service for many years in Alexandria, Minn., attended auto body school in Iowa and was employed until his retirement as a security guard at Iowa State University, a position of which he was very proud.

He married Shirley Jeanette Ash Dec. 23, 1963, in Alexandria, Minn., and they moved together to Iowa where they made their home until Shirley’s death June 17, 1995.

In his early years, he was an outdoorsman who fished and hunted with his dad and brothers. He enjoyed dining out and visiting with friends. He enjoyed watching television and kept on top of the news and had very strong feelings about politics and politicians!

He is survived by his six siblings, Beryl (Dorothy) Bratton, of Douglas, Ariz., Beverly Weisel, of Alexandria, Minn., Leonard (Judy Sayther) Bratton, of St. Louis Park, Minn., LaRae Barros, of New Hope, Minn., Bonnie (Gregg) Soderberg, of Las Vegas, and Patty (Roy) Wicken, of Alexandria, Minn.; five nephews; and nine nieces.
