Doris Elliott, 82, of Ames, died Monday, May 10, 2010, in Boone. Arrangements are pending with Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, May 12, 2010.

Doris Mae Elliott, 82, of Ames, died Monday, May 10, 2010, at Hearthstone Memory Care Unit at Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 14, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.

Doris Mae Elliott was born Feb. 10, 1928, in Collins, to Sydney and Mabel (Cheville) Atkinson. On Nov. 17, 1946, she married John F. Elliott in Ames. She came to Ames and worked for the Tilden Store. She was a homemaker and housewife while raising six boys. She was an accomplished seamstress and worked out of her home. She also worked for Montgomery Ward for many years, retiring in 1983. She enjoyed sewing and creating craft projects.

She is survived by her sons, John Douglas, of Ames, Steve, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Dave, Denton (Paula), of Boone, James, of Huxley, and Richard (Kim), of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Brian Elliott, Krista (Josh) Moorman, Jessica (Lee) Morgan, J.J. Elliott, Carissa Elliott, Ashley Elliott, Logan Elliott and Chandler Elliott; and great-grandchildren, Sydney Moorman, Kelsea Moorman, Jacob Moorman and Bryana Morgan.

She was preceded in death by her husband on June 24, 2005; her parents; three sisters; and four brothers.

The family requests donations be sent to them and designated for the Hearthstone Memory Care Unit of Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone.
