THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, May 11, 2010.

Maysel (Means) Farmer, 101, of Rolling Green Village in Nevada, passed away Sunday, May 9, 2010. She has donated her body to the University of Iowa. A graveside service will be at a later date with burial in Fontanelle.

Maysel was born Aug. 1, 1908, in Fontanelle, to Albion and Lula (Martin) Means. She was the oldest of six children. She married Wallace Farmer March 23, 1929, and to this union three children were born. They lived and raised their family in the Fontanelle area until around 1950 when they settled in Ames. Maysel was a very active woman through her many years of life. She worked as a seamstress for many of those years. After retiring, she continued to keep busy by babysitting many of the children in Ames and also eventually assisting with the elderly. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, bingo, talking politics and visiting with family.

She is survived by one sister-in-law, Helen Means, of Fontanelle; one daughter-in-law, Sharon Farmer, of Ames; four grandchildren, Ken (JoAnn) Molyneux, of Prescott Valley, Ariz., Gary (Nancy) Farmer, of Ames, Vicki Weisshaar, of Gilbert, and Debbie (Ariel) Esquivel, of Lindenhurst, Ill.; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; two brothers; her husband, Wallace Farmer; one son, Raymond Farmer; two daughters, Betty Emery and Lorene Vaughn; two grandchildren, Mike Farmer and Marty Molyneux; and one great-grandchild as an infant.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
