Henry Gee, 87, of Ames, died Sunday, April 25, 2010, at Northcrest Community Health Care Center. Arrangements are pending with Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Henry Gee, 87, of Ames, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2010, at Northcrest Community Health Care Center. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010, in the Green Room at Northcrest Community.

He was born April 4, 1923, in Nanking, China, to Charles and He (Chen) Gee. He completed his education there, earning a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. In March 1949, he arrived at Iowa State College, now ISU, in Ames to pursue higher education, obtaining a master’s degree in 1951. Subsequently, he joined the Highway Commission, now the IDOT, retiring in 1988 as chief structural engineer in the Bridge Section, after serving the state for 37 years.

He married Mary Huang in 1955 in Philadelphia. They returned to Ames to raise their family. After retirement, he took up playing bridge seriously, and participated in the Ames Duplicate Bridge Club.

He is survived by Mary, his wife of 55 years; one daughter, Carol, of Los Angeles; one son, Stephen, of Honolulu; and two grandchildren, Isabella and Alexander; as well as two brothers and one sister in China.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be addressed to the Northcrest Foundation, 1801 20th St., Ames, IA, 50010.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting with arrangements.
