Hans H. Olson Dies Of Paralysis

Elderly Resident Dies After Illness of Only Ten Days, leaves Large Family of Children and Grandchildren to Mourn His Sudden Demise

Hans H. Olson, one of the elderly citizens of Roland, died at his home in the east part of town on Saturday, August 13, 1910, after an illness of only ten days, the cause of his death being cerebral hemorrhage following a stroke of paralysis. Mr. Olson had been in his usual health until two weeks ago, when he suffered a stroke of paralysis, but seemed to be getting well again, when he was taken suddenly worse again on Friday night and on Saturday afternoon he passed away.

Hans H. Olson was born in Skaanevig Prestgjold, BergsStift, Norway, Europe, on November 29, 1841, his parents being Hans and Anna Kjelmeland, being 68 years, 8 months and 15 days old when called to the Great Beyond. At the age of seventeen years he came to this country, making Lisbon, Ill. his home. Here he was married in 1861 to Miss Jorine Fordal, by Rev. P. A. Rasmusson, to which union thirteen children were born, ten of whom survive their father. Two children died as infants, while the third, J. H. Olson, died eleven years ago at his home near Forest City. The children living are, Tom Olson, of Ottawa, Ill., Mrs. Knudt Enger, Mrs. Ole Enger, of Morris, Ill., Mrs. Sam Peterson, of Ottawa, Ill., Joe Olson, Hector Olson, Morris, Ill., Mrs. Chas. Johnson, of near Newark, Ill., C. J. Olson, Mrs. C. J. Twedt, Burt Olson, of this place. Besides his wife and children, he leaves forty-five grandchildren and numerous friends and relatives to mourn his sudden death.

In 1891, Mr. Olson purchased the Oscar Thompson farm four miles south of town and moved there with his family, where he lived until eight years ago, when he sold the farm to O. H. Twedt and moved to Roland, where has since resided. Mr. Olson was always a hard working man, and one who gained the respect of those with whom he had dealings, being found upright in his transactions.

The funeral was held from Bergen church on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. H. Halvorson of Story City conducting the funeral services in the absence of Rev. Smedal. The church was filled with friends and relatives of the family, who wished to pay their last respects to the dead. After the funeral services, the remains were interred in the Roland cemetery. The Record extends to the sorrowing family its sincere sympathy.
