Respected Lady Died Monday

Mrs. Ole Mathison Expired at Story City Last Monday After Few Days Illness of Pneumonia at Home of Her Daughter

The tolling of the church bells last Monday morning brought forth the query as to who was dead, and it was soon learned that Mrs. Ole Mathison had passed away at the home of Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Nessa, at Story City where she had been visiting for a few days. Few people here knew of her illness and the news came as a shock to the many friends of the family. The cause of her death was pneumonia.

Mrs. Ole Mathison was born in Holmeland, Skaanevig's prestgjelde, Norway, June 26, 1842 and was 69 years, 5 months and 22 days old at her death. She was twice married, her first husband passing away in 1871, his name being Oliver Jacobs and to which union two children were born, T. P. Jacobs, of Bancroft, and Mrs. M. J. Solbrack of Jewell, deceased. In 1872 she was married to Ole Mathison who is now left to mourn the death of his loving wife. To this union was born six children, they being as follows: E. H. Mathison, of Ipswich, S. D.; C. J. Mathison of Roland; Julia, who died some years ago; Mrs. Sam Nelson, of McCallsburg; O. S. Mathison and Mrs. S. J. Nessa of Story City. She also leaves a large number of grandchildren, two step children, Lewis Mathis, of Elmore, Minn., and Mrs. A. J. Nelson, of Agate, N. D., and a brother Erick Thorson, of Helmer, Ill.

In 1866 she came to Kendall County, Ill., where she lived a few years, later moving to Hamilton county and then to Roland where they have since made their home.

The funeral services will be held from Berflen [Bergen?] church on Friday afternoon, Rev. G. Smedal preaching the funeral sermon after which the remains will be laid to rest in the Roland cemetery. Her son, E. H. Mathison is here for the funeral. The Record extends its sincere sympathy to the sorrowing family.
