THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, April 20, 2010.

Robert “Pete” Pederson, 85, of Eagle Grove, died Monday, April 19, 2010, at Wright Medical Center in Clarion. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 23, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Inurnment will be in Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell, S.D.

Robert Pederson was born Dec. 11, 1924, in Dallas, S.D., to Maurice and Bertha (Esterling) Pederson. His family moved frequently, and he attended 12 different schools. He graduated from Norfolk (Neb.) High School.

He served two separate enlistments in the U.S. Navy, in the South Pacific during World War II and again in Korea.

He worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad and lived in Omaha, Neb., where he met Deloris Lassegard. They married on June 6, 1953, and moved to Norfolk, Neb. They moved to Eagle Grove in 1957. He retired from the railroad in 1982.

He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge. He loved woodworking, yard work and especially having coffee with his railroad family.

He is survived by one daughter, Vicki Pederson, of Ames; one brother, Jack (Catherine) Pederson, of England; sisters-in-law, Doris Pederson, of Rapid City, S.D., and Gladys Olson, of California; brothers-in-law, Lloyd (Stella) Lassegard, of Rock Island, Ill., Stan (Ruth) Lassegard, of Ames, and Ken (Dietta) Lassegard, of Fremont, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one sister, Phyllis Kash; and one brother, Dick Pederson.
