Lucille Fern Skinner May 27, 1914, to May 6, 2002
Lucille Fern Skinner, 87, of rural Maxwell, died Monday, May 6, at her home from complications of pneumonia.
She was born May 27, 1914, near Mingo to Jacob and Katherine (Altes) Baldwin. She married Howard Skinner on March 5, 1938, in Farrar. She graduated from Mingo High School in 1932. She received normal training and taught at several rural schools before getting married. In addition to helping Howard on the farm, she had a floral shop in Maxwell for more than 15 years and had also worked at Bournes in Ames and RR Donnelley in Nevada. She enjoyed working with flowers and teaching ceramic classes. She was a member of Loring United Methodist Church and the ICU Neighborhood Club.
Survivors include a son, James H. (and Sharon) Skinner of White Oak; a daughter, Marla Kay (and Robert) Barnes of Mitchellville; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Ione Dykstra of Cambridge.
Her parents and husband preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held today, Thursday, May 9, at the Loring United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Carlson officiating. Burial was in the Ashton Cemetery, northeast of Mingo. Memorials may be made to the Loring United Methodist Church. The Bacon Funeral Home, Maxwell, handled arrangements.
