OBITUARY OF JACOB WESTRE
Jacob Westre was born to the parents, Johan and Christi Westre, at Skjold, Stavanger, Norway, April 23, 1846, and died at the home of his daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Tokheim at Eagle Grove, May 10, 1933, at the age of 87 years and 17 days.
His parents, together with their ten children, five sons and five daughters, came to the United States, to Leland, Ill., in 1863, where the family remained for some years. Then they moved to Benton county, Iowa, where they resided also a few years, after which they moved to Clay county, South Dakota, where many of the Westre families still live.
Mr. Westre was united in marriage to Miss Bertine Jacobson Hoversten December 9, 1886. To this union two children were born, one son who died in infancy, and one daughter, Mrs. Junis Tokheim, who now survives him. In 1909 Mr. and Mrs. Westre moved from Clay county, South Dakota, to Roland, where Mrs. Westre passed away on January 4, 1915. Mr. Westre served as town marshal for several years while a resident of Roland.
In November 1915 Mr. Westre moved to Eagle Grove where he has since lived. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Junis Tokheim and by three grandchildren. His nephew, Ben Thorson of Elmore, Minn., made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Westre from childhood.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, May 13, from the home and from the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church, Rev. T. J. Severson officiating. Burial was made in the family lot at Roland beside the remains of his wife.
