L. H. LARSEN DIES FOLLOWING AUTO ACCIDENT

INJURIES PROVE FATAL TO LOCAL MAN HURT LAST WEEK

Lawrence H. Larsen died at 6:30 o'clock Sunday evening at the Story City hospital after having been unconscious for over four days following an auto accident near Renwick Wednesday noon.

Besides Mr. Larsen two others were seriously injured in the wreck, his daughter, Miss Violet Larsen, and Miss Emma Gibson of Estherville, a passenger in the Larsen car.

The accident happened about 1:00 o'clock on the highway five miles northwest of Renwick. There were no eyewitnesses, but it is thought that something went wrong with the steering apparatus, causing him to lose control of the car and it rolled over into the ditch with considerable force, Miss Larsen having been thrown a distance of fifty feet.

Passing motorists picked them up and took them to Renwick. An ambulance was summoned from Eagle Grove and Mr. Larsen was brought to the hospital at Story City the same evening, where he remained in an unconscious condition until his death. Miss Larsen was also unconscious after the accident, but regained consciousness and was brought to her home here Thursday evening. He back was considerably bruised, but no bones were broken and she is now recovering.

Mr. Larsen's injury was a fractured skull and there was practically no hope for his recovery. Miss Gibson sustained a broken arm and cuts on the face.

Mr. Larsen and his daughter left here Wednesday noon for Luverne where tehy were to get Mrs. Larsen's mother, Mrs. Marinius Hansen, and bring her here for the wedding the following day when Lyman Larsen was to have been married. On the way they had picked up Miss Gibson, who was hitch hiking from Des Moines where she was employed, to her home in Estherville, and the accident happened shortly before they reached their destination, Luverne.

The family here was notified at once and they all left immediately for the scene of the fatal wreck, and arranged for returning the injured.

Mr. Larsen had lived in Roland for fifteen years where he was employed as buttermaker at the local creamery. He took an active interest in the affairs of the community and was at present a member of the town council.

The funeral will be held this afternoon at 1:30 at the residence and at 2:00 o'clock at Salem church with Rev. Olaf Holen officiating. Interment will be made in the Roland cemetery.

The town council at its regular meeting Monday night passed a resolution of condolence and then adjourned until next Monday night. All business houses on Main street will be closed this afternoon during the funeral hour out of respect for the deceased.

LARSEN FUNERAL HELD LAST WEEK

MANY ATTEND LAST RITES FOR VICTIM OF AUTO ACCIDENT

Funeral services were held last Wednesday afternoon for Lawrence H. Larsen at the Larsen home and at Salem Lutheran church, Rev. Olaf Holen officiating. Interment was made in the Roland cemetery.

The church was filled to overflowing, a number being unable to get in. A quintet composed of Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Boyd, Mrs. Cyrus Thompson, Miss Dorothy Boyd and Earl Quam, sang a song and Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Boyd also sang a duet. The pall bearers were K. P. Teig, Iver Gjerde, S. H. Frederickson, Sam Bakka, Knut Mehus and Carl J. Jacobson.

Lawrence H. Larsen was born April 9, 1881, at Langeland, Denmark, and died at the hospital in Story City May 7, 1933, at the age of 52 years, and 28 days. Death resulted from injuries and complications received in an auto accident near Renwick on May 3.

At the age of 19 he came to this country, residing at Goldfield, Iowa. Here on December 28, 1904, he was united in marriage to Selende Marie Hansen, to which union three children were born. They lived at Goldfield until March 1912, when, with the family, they moved to Sexton where they made their home until March 1918, when they came to Roland.

Mr. Larsen was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith before leaving Denmark. At the time of his death he was a member of the Salem Lutheran church, of which he was a trustee.

Mr. Larsen had been employed as buttermaker for the Roland Farmers Creamery company since he came here 15 years ago. He always took an active interest in church and community affairs, holding various offices in the different organizations. He was at present serving his third term as a member of the town council.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, two daughters, Anne and Violet, and one son, Lyman, all at home, also two brothers and two sisters, Edward Andreasen of Manly, Iowa, Alfred Andreasen, Mrs. Juel Christiansen and Mrs. Marie Madsen of Langeland, Denmark.

R. Hansen and Mrs. Martin Hansen of Luverne, Mrs. Anna Madson, Mrs. Farnk Hansen, Mrs. H. Stebritz, Mrs. Florence Bowen, Mrs. John Brown and Max Kalen of Algona, Mr. and Mrs. William Kinsey and Mrs. Emil Hogg and two children of Adel, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Muller and daughter Alsaida, and Frank Mullin of Klemme, Mr. and Mrs. George Olson of Sexton, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Andreasen of Manly, Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Johnson and family of Ellsworth, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Nelson of Randall, C. E. Behnke of Ames and Mr. Johnson of Cedar Rapids.
