Betty Jean (Mattingly) Tjelmeland, 72, of Roland died at her home on Saturday, March 27, 2010. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 1st at 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg. Burial will follow in the Roland Cemetery. Visitation of family and friends was held on Wednesday, March 31st at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.
Betty was born August 23, 1937 to Alvin and Pauline (Beal) Mattingly in Ames, Iowa. She was raised by her grandparents, Ray and Eva Beal of Maxwell, Iowa. She married Dwayne Tjelmeland on October 7, 1956. Betty was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg. She worked at RH Donnelly’s in Nevada for 28 years, at Bourne’s in Ames as an inspector for 18 years, had three years of computer classes, and worked for Dr. Beal at Iowa State University for 4 years.
Betty enjoyed horses, Elvis Presley’s music, being outside, gardening, and flowers.
She is survived by her husband Dwayne of Roland; one son Douglas Tjelmeland of Emmetsburg, Pennsylvania; one sister Bonnie Bishop of Des Moines, Iowa; and three grandchildren, Welcome Noah Tjelmeland, Prosper Vire Tjelmeland, and Grace Valentine Tjelmeland.
Memorials may be designated to Wesley Hospice.
