THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, March 31, 2010.
Phyllis J. Cottrill, 83, of Ames, died of an aortic aneurysm Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. She requested no services. Her body will be cremated and inurnment will be at a later date.
Phyllis Cottrill was born June 23, 1926, in Ames, to Raymond and Viola (Pettit) Koontz. She graduated from Ames High School in 1943. She married Walter Cottrill May 5, 1945, in Tyler, Texas. A lifelong Ames resident, her full-time job was raising their five children. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards with Walt and watching the birds that flocked to the birdfeeders in her backyard.
She looked forward to spending time with extended family members at the many family reunions that were held over the years. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her children and their families.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda (Larry) Fullerton and Melanie Lee, all of Ames; three sons, David (Pat) Cottrill, of Ames, Jeff (Pam) Cottrill, of St. Paul, Minn., and Chris (Lorrie) Cottrill, of Ames; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond (Fran) Koontz, of Des Moines; and one sister, Virginia Shierholz, of Winter Haven, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one great-granddaughter.
