Funeral services have been held here the past week for tow of the older residents of the community. Mrs. O. M. Rierson, who came here in 1870, died Tuesday last week and the funeral was held Friday. Nels T. Wicks

Nels T. Wicks was born February 14, 1850, in Skaanevik, Norway, and died at his home in Roland Friday, October 14, 1932, at the age of 73 years and eight months.

He came to America in 1874, first to Illinois and in 1887 to Iowa, where he and the family have resided around and in Roland ever since. Two years ago he moved from the farm southeast of town to the residence he purchased in the northwest part of Roland.

He was married to Miss Caroline Nelson at Morris, Ill., on July 23, 1883, who survives him. Eight children were born of whom three died in childhood, Thomas, Ora, and Clarence. Those surviving are Mrs. Ora Sougstad of Fedora, S. D., Mrs. Nettie Strum of Roland, Mrs. Tuelida Hanson of Los Angeles, Cal., Clarence Wicks of Roland, and Mrs. Eunice Kelley of Chicago, Ill. He also leaves 12 grandchildren.

Mr. Wicks suffered a severe infection in one of his legs about three years ago and it became necessary to amputate the limb in order to save his life. Although he recovered and was able to be around since that time, he did not fully regain his health and was ill much of the time. He passed away at 4:15 o'clock Friday afternoon following several weeks illness with a complication of diseases.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the residence and at Salem church, Rev. Olaf Holen officiating, and interment was made in the Roland cemetery.

The pall bearers at the funeral were nephews of the deceased, Tom H., Theodore, Iver J., Sherman, Tom S., and Willie Wicks.
