John Betz, 80, passed away Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 22 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 914 NW Ash Drive, Ankeny, with burial at Chapel Hill Gardens. Visitation was Sunday, Feb. 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the church.

John was born on Feb. 22, 1929 in Des Moines to Ernest and Nellie Otto Betz. He graduated from Johnston Consolidated High School and attended Iowa State University until he was called to work on the family farm. He met and married Anita Bos on August 30, 1952 and had two children, Dennis and Denise.

He was employed with Pioneer Hi-Bred Corn Company for 35 years and upon retirement worked for five more years at the Children's Convalescent Home in Johnston.

John was involved with the Johnston Lions Club, a proud Boy Scout leader, and was a charter member of St. James Lutheran Church in Johnston. He was also a charter member of the Resurrection Lutheran Church.

He was a devoted family man and his strong work ethic and fun loving humor and smile endeared him to many. His wisdom and fairness will live in our hearts forever.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anita; children, Dennis (Toni) Betz and Denise Betz; four grandchildren, Aaron Gwennap, Kailah, Kenton, and Kourtney Betz; sister, Beverly Betz and many friends.
