THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, February 25, 2010.

Gloria Jean Vachon, 62, of Temple Hills, Md., died Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at her residence. Family and friends are invited to Gloria’s life celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, at George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, Md. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at Epiphany Episcopal Church, 3111 Ritchie Road, Forestville, MD. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

She was born March 5, 1947, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of William L. and Dorothy H. Grady. She was a contract specialist for the U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters and retired from the federal government in 2004. She was a member of the Maryland China Painter’s Association, was an active genealogist, gardener and a lover of old movies and mysteries.

She is survived by her loving husband, Michael Vachon; her mother, Dorothy Grady; one son, Warren Phillips; one daughter-in-law, Rebecca Burzette; and one grandson, William Phillips. She is also survived by her cousins, Michael Auth, his wife, Lucy, their daughter, Melanie, Melanie’s fiance, Jack McGuire, James Auth, his wife, Judy, and their daughters, Debbie, Shannon and Melinda and their children, Elmer Padgett, Karen Padgett and their two children, Brian and Sandra. She is also survived by her aunt, Phyllis Padgett, and her family.

She was predeceased by her father, William Grady.
