THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, December 31, 2009.

Jerrol “Jerry” M. Severtson, 68, of Brady, Mont., an Army veteran, retired regional supervisor for Self-Service Furniture and longtime Montana resident, died unexpectedly at his home Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, of natural causes. A celebration of his life is planned for the spring. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Benton Funeral Home.

Jerry was born July 28, 1941, in Story City, Iowa. In high school, he excelled in baseball and basketball. At 18, he moved to Lewistown, Mont., and that fall, he joined the Army. He returned to Lewistown and worked for Weir Furniture until his marriage to Stella Ayres, when he moved to Lake Havasu City, Ariz. While living there, they had two children, Amy and Dnell. He eventually worked his way back to Montana, where he raised his girls and worked for Self-Service Furniture in Billings. He later became the manager of Town and Ranch Furniture in Great Falls, Mont., and was a regional supervisor until he retired in 2004.

Upon retirement, he moved to the Rossmiller Farm near Brady, where he and longtime friend Donnie enjoyed restoring John Deere tractors. He also was very interested in Old West history, sports, World War II, guns, aviation and NASCAR racing.

He is survived by two daughters, Amy Belcher, of Ocean Springs, Miss., and Dnell Severtson, of Kirkland, Wash.; five grandchildren, Ashley, Dominique and Laura Belcher, and Sidney and Madeline Cronk; one brother, Wayne (Nancy) Severtson, of Billings, Mont.; two sisters, JoAnn (Roy) DeMoss, of Ames, and Susan (Denny) Bauman, of Lewistown, Mont.; stepmother, Dorothy Severtson, of McCallsburg; and stepsister, Susan Cook, of Ankeny.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joris and Bernice Severtson; and one sister, Jeanne Beth, of McCallsburg.
