Max Smith passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at his home in rural Putnam County after a battle with cancer.
Max Gene Smith was born July 3, 1931, in Nevada, the son of L. Ward and M. Florence (Hitchings) Smith who preceded him in death.
Max served with the United States Marine Corps in Korea. He owned his own tiling business and; worked at various other jobs. He enjoyed collecting chain saws. Max also enjoyed country music and visiting the Mississippi River at Canton, Mo
Max is survived by his wife, Judy, of the home; children, Timm (Carla) Smith,of Colo, Trudy (Jim Wells) of Des Moines, Teresa (Dally) Buck of
Colo, Tom (Alicia) Smith of Colo and Janet (Lee) Weers of Pella; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Don (Dora Jean) Smith of Turner, Ore.; a sister, Thelma (Bill) Haley of Nevada; numerous nieces and nephews; and special family members Brad and Angie Thompson and Patty Boland.In addition to his parents, Max was preceded in death by step-father, Lester Vail and by brothers, Dale and Dick Smith. A step-granddaughter, Felicia Schreyer, also preceded Max in death.
Private graveside services were held in Missouri for Max. Memorials are suggested to the family and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th, Unionville, Mo., 63565.
