THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, December 24, 2009.

Ronald L. Smith, 71, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at his home in Nevada. The body has been cremated and no services are planned per his wishes. He wanted everyone who knew him to remember him as living.

Ronald was born July 17, 1938, at Iowa Falls, the son of Howard and Alta (Tiffany) Smith, and the grandson of Ray and Clara Tiffany, of Collins. He married Karen Laudner May 29, 1960, at the Cottage Church near Iowa Falls. They farmed ground in Hardin County, then moved to Collins in 1960 and farmed ground there and in Story and Jasper counties, retiring in 2007.

He was a member of the Collins United Methodist Church, Collins Lions Club and Iowa Ranch Horse Association.

Ronald is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Smith Appelgate, of Nevada; one son, Roy Smith, of Collins; two grandchildren, Clint Ronald Appelgate and Samantha Appelgate, of Nevada; and a brother, Dick Smith, of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gifts may be given to the Collins United Methodist Church.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
