THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, December 12, 2009.

Darwin G. Morris, of McCallsburg, 66, died peacefully at his home Dec. 9, 2009, after lengthy illnesses.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg. The memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran. Samuel-Reid American Legion Post No. 334 in McCallsburg is conducting military rites.

Darwin was born Aug. 15, 1943, to Gene and Margaret (Smith) Morris, in Eldora. He was raised in the McCallsburg area and graduated from NESCO High School in 1961. He began his higher education at Coe College. His college education was put on hold when he entered the U.S. Army in August 1964, where he served until 1968. Darwin later enrolled at Iowa State University, where he graduated with a major in fisheries and wildlife biology. He married Geri Myers on May 24, 1985. He retired from the National Animal Disease Center in August 2004.

Darwin is survived by his wife, Geri, of McCallsburg, and their children, Jamie Helstedt, of Bondurant, Angie (Scott) Tscherter, of Nevada, Jessica (Shane) Paige, of Cedar Falls, and Jed Morris, of Clarksville, along with three grandsons, Caelin, Nolan and Brady Tscherter. Also surviving Darwin are his mother, Margaret, of Hubbard, and his brother, Alan (Marsha) Morris, of Zearing, along with many nieces and nephews.

Darwin was preceded in death by his father, Gene Morris.
