THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, December 9, 2009.
Kenneth Saveraid, 82, of Collins, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Palestine Lutheran Church near Huxley. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery following services.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at Palestine Lutheran Church.
Kenneth was born Aug. 16, 1927, in Story City, the son of Jeffrey “J.O.” and Eva (Satterlee) Saveraid. He graduated from White Oak High School in 1945, and went on to Iowa State University. He married Shirley Blink-Wilson May 21, 1949. He farmed in the Ames area and lived for many years in Minnesota where he continued to farm and operate a horse transport business. He loved draft horses and showed at Minnesota and Iowa State Fairs for more than 25 years. Throughout the years he was involved in numerous other businesses. He retired to Collins in 2003.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Collins; two sons, Steven (Linda) Saveraid, of Excelsior, Minn., and David (Jean) Saveraid, of Huxley; one daughter, Pamela (Rodney) Borg, of Lakeville, Minn.; six grandchildren, Dena (Saveraid) Lambert, Clinton Saveraid, Megan (Borg) Blazek, Gregory Saveraid, Erik Borg and Amy Borg; two brothers, Paul Saveraid, of Cambridge, and Arthur Saveraid, of Huxley; and one sister, Janet Roberts, of Oceanside, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Herbert.
Memorials may be given to the Palestine Lutheran Church.
Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
