Jerry M. Cheek, 67, of Ames and formerly of Nevada, died on Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 26, 2009, at his Ames residence. Memorial services are pending with Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.

Jerry M. Cheek, 67, died at his home in Ames on Nov. 26, 2009, after a battle with cancer. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, 250 E Ave., Nevada.

Jerry was born at Des Moines Lutheran Hospital to Mildred (Bacon) and Roy Cheek. He grew up doing construction work in the summers working with his dad.

Jerry graduated from Nevada High School in 1960 and married his high school sweetheart Linda Haley in May 1961. They lived in Nevada for all but the last couple of years, when they moved to Ames.

Jerry worked as a parts man all of those years, first with Continental Fertilizer Co., then Massey Fergeson, and finally with Peterbuilt Truck Sales in Altoona, from where he retired.

He was active in sports in school and continued to love sports through playing in adult leagues and following his kids and grandkids in sports. He was on the Booster Club in Nevada for several years. He was an active member of First Christian Church, passing his faith on to his kids and grandkids. His family was his life, and he was a wonderful husband, father and grandpa.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Linda, of Ames; three children, Deb (Randy) Robinson, Brenda (Monty Lintz) Theilen and Jim (Dana) Cheek, all of Nevada; grandchildren Tara, Tonya and Tasha Robinson, Kasey and Kelli Theilen, and Delaney, James and Hayden Cheek; his brother, Dee (Sandra) Cheek, of Ames; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Karen and Tom Plunkett of Maxwell, Ron and Diana Haley, of Nevada, Jan Hathaway, of Nevada and Junior Haley, of Maxwell; and many loved nieces and nephews.

A memorial fund has been established in Jerry’s name.

Chet Ryan Mortuary has been entrusted with Jerry and his family.
