THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, November 4, 2009.
Lillian Marie Knutson, 93, of Ames, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames with Father James Secora presiding. The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until time of service. A private burial will be in Story Memorial Gardens in Ames.
Lillian Knutson was born May 2, 1916, in Des Moines to Francis Daniel and Anna Mary (Rothmeyer) Burg. She graduated from Collins High School in 1934.
She married Hollis A. “Red” Knutson on Sept. 25, 1940. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames. They were engaged in farming and settled on a farm south of Ames. Her second career was as a clerk/bookkeeper for several plumbing, heating and cooling companies.
She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and Mary Greeley Medical Center Auxiliary. She was an accomplished bowler and a member of the 600 club. She enjoyed going to lunch and playing cards with her friends and neighbors. Her wonderful baking was generously shared and cherished by all. She was an avid gardener and loved to read.
She is survived by three grandsons, Mike (Jami) Knutson, of Marshalltown, and their daughters, Brianne and Brittany, Steve (Jodie) Knutson, of Marshalltown, and their sons, Joshua and Benjamin, and Kevin (Darla) Knutson, of State Center, and their children, Nathan and Tomarra McManus; one granddaughter, Teresa (Jim) Choi, of West Des Moines; three great- great grandsons, Landan, Tristan and Nolan; special niece, Mary Christy; and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 27, 1968; one son, Robert Leon on Oct. 29, 2000; five brothers, Virgil, John, Charles, Wayne and Ralph Burg; and two sisters, Delores Duncan and Betty Middleton.
