David Lee Swanson, Sr. 72 of Colo died on Thursday, November 12 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 17 at the Nevada First United Methodist Church, 1036 7th in Nevada with Pastor Kevin Leveck officiating. Burial followed in the Colo Cemetery.

Dave was born on April 14, 1937 in Des Moines to Carl and Noel (Coffman) Swanson. On August 25, 1956, he married Donna Jean Lind in Des Moines. Dave was the owner of Swanson Hardware in Colo until 2006. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, past president of Iowa Retail Hardware Association, Eldora Training School Mechanical Board and served on various church boards.

Dave is survived by his wife, Donna; a son David Swanson Jr. (Becky); a daughter, Diana Meier (Gil), all of Colo; 4 grandchildren, Michael Meier, Angela Swanson, Christy Meier, and April Swanson; 2 great grandchildren, Natalie Swanson and Jayden Swanson; and a sister, Margaret Ann Fleming of Des Moines.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, a great grandson, Tanner Doran on December 1, 2008, 7 brothers and sisters.

A memorial fund has been established in Dave’s name.

Chet Ryan Mortuary has been entrusted with Dave and his family.
