Maurice Clark, 79, of Ames, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services are pending with Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater.

Maurice L. Clark, 79, of Ames, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at Soderstrum Riis Funeral Home in Slater. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Slater, with Rev. Heidi Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Slater Municipal Cemetery.
Maurice was born May 13, 1930, to Clarence H. and Fern (Denby) Clark. He married LaVonne Sydnes March 21, 1951. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, and was a test engineer at John Deere in Ankeny. Maurice was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Slater American Legion. He and LaVonne moved to Ames in 1990 from Slater. He enjoyed his family, woodworking, playing golf, attending Elderhostels and going to Branson. He was also active in promoting donor awareness and volunteering at Mary Greeley Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife, LaVonne, of Ames; four children, Gary (Diane) Clark, of Wayzata, Minn., Ann (Greg) Jensen, of Southwest Ranches, Fla., David (Annette) Clark, of Redwood City, Calif., and Rebecca (C.J.) Williams, of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Sherrill (Walt) Behn, of Gresham, Ore.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Iowa Donor Network or the Slater Area Historical Association, and may be sent to Greg and Ann Jensen, 16850 Berkshire Court, Southwest Ranches, Fla. 33331.
Soderstrum Riis Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
