THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, November 12, 2009.

Clinton C. Gehring, 74, of Omaha, Neb., father of Pastor Randy Gehring, of Ames, died Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, following treatment for cancer. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church in Omaha. The burial of his cremains will occur in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley, Colo., at a later date.

Clinton Christ Gehring was born Dec. 8, 1934, to Carl and Laura (Martensen) Gehring, of Platte County, Neb. He graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus, Neb., in 1952. He then joined the U.S. Army March 19, 1956, and was honorably discharged March 16, 1959. He married Margeret Rose Hirsch June 24, 1960, in Greeley, Colo.

He worked in the electronics field while in Colorado. In 1970, he accepted a position with the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society as an administrator of two nursing homes in Parkston, S.D. In 1973, he was promoted to the central office in Sioux Falls, S.D., where he served in a number of executive positions until 1979 when he accepted a position with another nursing home firm in Sioux City. In the latter years of his career, Clint held a variety of jobs in which he sought to serve others with an attitude of joy and compassion.

At the heart of his life was his Christian faith. Clint was a member of St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church in Omaha and served in several leadership positions within the congregation.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Margeret, of Omaha; three children, Barbara (Ted) Trede, of rural Treynor, Randall (Shelly) Gehring, of Ames, and Russell (Mary) Gehring, of Omaha; three grandchildren, Laura and Tom Gehring, of Ames, and Jacob Gehring, of Omaha; three brothers, Kenneth (Dorothy) Gehring, of Fremont, Neb., Neal (Linda) Gehring, of Fort Collins, Colo., and Loren (Joan) Gehring, of Greeley, Colo.; one sister, Claretta (Fred) Coffey, of Greeley, Colo.; one brother-in-law, Ray Folkers, of Renton, Wash.; one aunt, Jennie (Martensen) Volenec, of Omaha; and many nieces and nephews.

Clinton was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Darlene Folkers; two uncles; and five aunts.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames.
