THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, November 10, 2009.

Velma Ilene Lyon Hicks, 92, of Ames, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Riverside Manor in Ames. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Adams Funeral Home.

Velma Ilene Lyon Hicks was born Oct. 15, 1917, in Nevada, to Roy D. and Minnie E. (Mills) Lyon. She attended Seventh Day Adventist Church School and Nevada High School. On Sept. 13, 1933, she married Clyde Hicks in Colo, and lived in Ames the rest of her life. She was art coordinator at Collegiate Manufacturing Company for 20 years, retiring in November 1988.

Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Killam, of Ames; daughter-in-law, Mary Hicks (Jack Vas), of Ames; grandchildren, Tim (Ouna) Killam IV, of Gilbert, Jeff (fiancée Barb Kirk) Killam, of Knoxville, Jimmie Hicks, of Omaha, Neb., and Linda (Henry) Hannusch, of Roland; 11 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband, Clyde in 1975; son, Jimmie in 1995; mother, Minnie Lyon in 1977; father, Roy Lyon in 1969; and son-in-law, Tim Killam III in 2009.
