THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, November 4, 2009.
Elma Lorene Busick, 98, daughter of Casper Newton Lamb and Margaret Grace (Carrell) Lamb, was born June 5, 1911, in Doyle Township, Clarke County, Iowa, and passed from this life Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at her daughter Myrna’s home in Hagerman, Idaho.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, with Pastor Thomas M. Prochnow officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to services on Sunday. Interment of cremains will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola.
Lorene attended the Hopeville and Doyle No. 7 country schools. She married Russell Arthur Busick Aug. 22, 1939, in Ames. Five children blessed this union.
Lorene was a homemaker and a mother. She and Russell owned and operated cafes in Osceola, Indianola and in Utah. She enjoyed canning and teaching her grandchildren how to make homemade noodles. She also liked to crotchet and piece quilt tops. She attended Gilbert Lutheran Church and was a member of their quilting group that made blankets for the needy. She loved her family, her flowers and her cats. Despite suffering a severe broken leg that might have kept her from walking, she later participated in a marathon run with her daughter Martha, and at age 73 she hiked into the Grand Canyon with her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Marvin (Pat) Busick, of Olathe, Kan.; two daughters, Myrna (Lyle) Cornelison, of Hagerman, Idaho, and Mary (Tom) Fitch, of Mesa, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Grace Kriese, of Glendale, Ariz., Maxine McConnell, of Murray, and Alberta Foland, of Grand River; two sons-in-law, Larry McHone, of Ames, and Don Christiansen, of Las Vegas; two sisters-in-law, Doris Lamb, of San Diego, and Bessie Lamb, of Osceola; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Those relatives who preceded Lorene in death were her parents; her husband; two daughters, Martha McHone and Marlys Christensen; one sister, Ruth Lamb; two brothers, Carl Lamb and Clark Lamb; two grandsons, Danny J. Busick and Troy T. Fitch; one great-grandson, Cody A. Cornelison; five brothers-in-law, Ralph Kriese, Doyle McConnell, Eugene Foland, Owen Busick and Guy Busick; and two sisters-in-law, Hazel Schader and Nellie Stottlemeyer.
