THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, November 3, 2009.

Ellen Leota Sorensen, 82, of Nevada, died Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at Story County Medical Center Senior Care. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth St., in Nevada.

Ellen was born May 3, 1927, in Moulton, to Benjamin Frank and Mary Alice (Batheny) Dwight. She was a Nevada High School graduate. On Aug. 10, 1947, she married Harry Richard “Dick” Sorenson in Nevada. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church and past member of the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed playing cards, baking and sewing.

She is survived by two sons, Larry Sorensen, of Nevada, and Dan Sorensen, of Pilot Mound; two daughters, Marlene Bonzer, of Liscomb, and Donna Dean, of Nevada; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth Harrigan, of Des Moines, and Alma Jene Willis, of Richland Hills, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dick Sorensen on Oct. 22, 2001; four brothers; and three sisters.

A memorial fund has been established in Ellen’s name.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with Ellen and her family.
