THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, November 3, 2009.

Thomas Stanley Okland, 81, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, also at Adams Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fjelberg Cemetery in Huxley.

Stanley was born Oct. 26, l928, in Ames. He graduated from Kelley High School and Iowa State University. He taught agriculture at Tama.

He served in the U.S. Army in Germany from l951 to l952. He was a member of Fjelberg Lutheran Church in Huxley and had resided at the Veterans Home in Marshalltown the past 20 years. Stanley made many friends at the Veterans Home and enjoyed working with ceramics and many other activities there. He always had a smile to share.

He is survived by two sisters, Lois Hove (Gordon), of Mesa, Ariz., and Dorothy Burger (Ken), of Cedar Rapids; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Okland, Carol Okland and Norma Okland; and 13 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Edith Okland; and three brothers, Kenneth, Marlowe and Leo.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Veterans Home in Marshalltown for their many years of excellent care for him.
