THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, October 21, 2009.

Harold Eugene “Gene” Corbin, 82, of Nevada, died Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at his home. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth St., in Nevada. Private burial of the cremains, with military rites, will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens.

Gene was born Dec. 16, 1926, in Nevada, to Orville Eugene and Juliea Oedlia (Sorem) Corbin. He served in the U.S. Army during Word War II. On July 8, 1947, he married Laura M. Stemler in Ames. He was a carpenter. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Nevada American Legion Post. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing softball, and square dancing.

He is survived by one son, Rick (Alma) Corbin, of Holiday Island, Ark.; one daughter, Vicki Corbin, of Nevada; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Virgil (Betty) Corbin, of Winterset; and two sisters, Joyce Swanson, of Nevada, and JoAn (Hugo) Jelden, of Ames.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Laura on Nov. 4, 2000; an infant great-grandson, Darren Parker; one brother, Otis DeWayne Corbin; and one sister, Darlene Brekke.

A memorial fund has been established in his name.

Chet Ryan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
